🕰️ History of Toylander
The Toylander story began in the UK in 1987 with a basic self build children's car kit, the single seater Mayfair. The company started with the vision of creating electric ride-on vehicles that offered an authentic driving experience.
- The Early Years: The first designs were basic self-build children's car kits, including the single-seater Mayfair and the twin-seat Geepstar. This early focus on self-build kits established the brand's connection with parents and grandparents looking for an engaging, educational project to share with their children. These initially began also as self build kit cars for children. Being powered by one 12v motor and the option to upgrade to a twin motor build for more power.
- The Land Rover Legacy: In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Toylander launched the models that would define the brand: the Toylander 1 (based on the 1948 Series I Land Rover) and the Toylander 2 (based on the 1958 Series II Land Rover ®). These incredibly detailed replicas quickly became iconic.
- Expansion of the Range: Toylander continued to expand its offerings, introducing other classic vehicles like the MB43 Willy Jeep, the Unimog®, and later the Toylander 3 (based on the 1972 Series III Land Rover®) and the Toylander 90 (replicating the Land Rover® 90).
Toylander Ltd continues to provide detailed self build kits and also complete fully ready to drive children's ride on cars, providing thousands of hours of fun for children (and plenty of parents and grandparents!) over the years. The Toylander brand thrives on attention to detail, high build quality, and faithful replication of the original vehicles, ensuring their models can be cherished and passed down through generations, becoming heirloom family possessions.
🛠️ What Toylander Does
Toylander's core business revolves around manufacturing and supplying electric, scale-model vehicles that faithfully replicate classic cars. These are supplied in either self-build kit form, for the keen DIY’er or hobbyist., or as fully built ready to drive vehicles delivered direct to the customer.
1. Self-Build Kits
Toylanders tradition is rooted in the self-build experience. We provide comprehensive Basic Kits and build manuals that allow customers (often parents, grandparents, or hobbyists) to construct the vehicle from the ground up. This offers an engaging, educational, and fun project, resulting in a deep personal connection to the finished vehicle. We supply many spare parts for older Toylanders that have been passed down the generations and are being serviced and upgraded ready for the next generation!
2. Ready-to-Drive Vehicles
For those who prefer to skip the construction process, Toylander also offers complete, fully ready-to-drive electric cars. These finished vehicles are built to the same high standards, offering immediate fun.
3. Authentic and Durable Design
Toylander vehicles are not cheap plastic toys; they are miniature cars. They feature:
- Authentic Details: True-to-life features often include working lights, horn, folding windscreens, opening tailgates, pneumatic tyres, and realistic hardware.
- Durable Construction: The cars are built with a tough monocoque body and quality components designed for ruggedness and longevity, allowing them to withstand years of active play.
- Real Motoring Features: The electric power systems typically include features like forward/reverse modes, speed control, footbrake, and handbrake, giving young drivers a genuine taste of real-world motoring in a safe environment (with a top speed 5mphr).
By focusing on quality and authenticity, Toylander creates enduring family heirlooms that allow children (and accompanying parents and grandparents!) to experience the thrill of classic British motoring.
